The 36-year civil war in Guatemala drove indigenous Mayan families to subsistence life at the Guatemala City Dump and small mountain farms.  Their 300 children attend Mi Refugio School, now in its 30th year, the only school to provide free education through 9th grade - Guatemala only requires 6 years of school. The children receive free books, unifoms and clothing, lunch, transportation and medical and dental care through the school and volunteer doctors and nurses.

To improve learning ability, Mi Refugio wants to provide breakfast each day before school.

To keep 9th grade students from returning to a life of poverty, Mi Refugio wants to offer a program to send them to career school (grades 10-12) to learn trade and business skills.  This training will allow the children to overcome their poverty life and have a good job in Guatemala.

$27 provides a child's breakfast for a month
$1,296 sends a 9th grade graduate to career school for one year

Funds are needed now to be able to use them for the upcoming school year!

The children will be grateful for your support  - your donation will give the children nutrition to learn more fully and achieve the goal of a job in the Guatemalan economy - a real reward for persistence and continued hope for a better life!

Thank you for your kindness and generosity!
